In Japan, May 5th used to be called Tango no Sekkyu (Boy's Day). In 1948 it was changed to Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) to celebrate the happiness of both boys and girls, and to express gratitude toward mothers.During Children's Day, an armored helmut is displayed to symbolize masculine strength, and koi banners are flown to promote health and vigor.
