Each year there is a parade that goes through Lawrenceville on Memorial Day. It is not a big, fancy parade with interesting floats and bands, it is down and dirty, and often occupied by people of questionable authority and significance to this national holiday. Nonetheless, we walk the 100 yards down the block to attend each year.
The parade travels down Butler Street, which is a fairly narrow commercial street. The bands, gunshots, and revving engines reverberate loud noises against the glass and masonry storefronts and the kids are half terrified of permanent hearing loss. Imogen insists on having her ears covered the entire time.
Most people from the neighborhood manage to attend, so it is always fun seeing all our friends. Imogen wanted to look "beautiful" for the parade so she wore her new spring dress. After eating way too much candy and sucking down exhaust fumes, we finally made our way back home. Another successful Memorial Day parade in Lawrenceville!
How on earth can you move to the country and enjoy the fresh air after such a fun event? Love, Grandma Susie
